Several trademark filings spotted by MacRumors suggest Apple is taking steps to protect the usage of the terms Healthbook , Health Book, HealthKit, iResearch, and iReasearch. [1]
The trademark applications were filed earlier this year in Trinidad and Tobago several days after the the Healthbook app was leaked. The trademark applications do not reference Apple, but the company has used Trinidad and Tobago for early trademark filings in the past.
Other circumstantial evidence hinting at an Apple link is convincing, including another set of applications for âApple CarPlay,â which were filed at the same time as the Healthbook set and appeared several months before Apple unveiled the automobile-based technology .
Information about the meaning of the trademarked names is not available with terms like Healkthkit and iResearch likely being reserved for future Apple products or services.
It is not entirely clear what these terms are intended to describe, although HealthKit could be a set of developer tools for Healthbook integration in much the same way Apple has named other kits such as UIKit and GameKit. The focus of iResearch is even less clear, and iReasearch could simply be a typo that was quickly corrected with another filing.
As noted by MacRumors, the trademark filings were filed in four categories: 9 (computer software), 10 (medical apparatus), 14 (jewelry and watches), and 42 (computer hardware and software development services).
