The Angry Birds franchise is probably the biggest game title since Mario Brothers. Ask anyone with an iPhone or iPad (or an Android device, for that matter) and they will probably admit to at least having played the game once or twice. Today, the franchiseâs creator, Rovio, announced yet another addition to the family of birds and pigs. Only this time, there are no catapults and flinging fowl. This time, the adventure is âEpic.â
âAngry Birds Epic,â according to the game makerâs blog [1] , is âan adventure role-playing game (RPG) set in a fantasy version of Piggy Island.â Instead of aiming your bird at a precariously positioned structure to try to knock it down, players will embark on a epic journey with turn-based combat, a story rich campaign, and the ability to craft weapons, armor, and potions with resources farmed from within the game.
Rovio released a soft launch of the game in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand today with more countries to follow later this spring. The game maker regularly releases games first in the above-mentioned countries so they can get a feel for how a widespread public launch works before unleashing it on the bigger markets. The company likes to get feedback and opinions from larger populations than a beta test can offer, so they can make tweaks to the software before releasing games worldwide.
Last month, Rovio teased a new game in the franchise called âAngry Birds Stella,â due out this fall. That game also promises to offer something different for fans of the fat bird phenomenon.
If you live in Canada, Australia, or New Zealand, you can download the game in your countryâs App Store now. The rest of us will just have to wait a few weeks longer. Visit the gameâs official website [2] to stay up to date on future launch news.
