BitLit – download eBooks of the books you ownInstall [1]

Ever wanted the eBook digital edition of a physical book you own for your phone or tablet? BitLit [2]  allows you to do just that! Read this review to learn how!

Content Rating: Low Maturity

AndroidTapp.com Android App Review :

Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • Download eBook version of physical book you own!
  • More than 5,000 titles available for download (at the time of review)!

Cons

  • May not be compatible with all books (please see list of eligible publishers below).
  • Book scanning recognition could be a bit more responsive.

Features:

BitLit allows you to download the books you own in eBook format to read on your phone or tablet. The supported formats are ePUB and/or PDF… therefore you can import into your favorite eBook apps  or PDF reader apps .

First you must own one of the physical books from the compatible publisher’s list. Note: the app will not work for books not in the list- see below list of publishers. To get started, you connect the app with your Google+ account, then scan the book cover with the app’s built-in scanner. Ensure you line up the corners within the on-screen overlay, then give it a few as it attempts to recognize the book. I personally felt this could have been more responsive, as it took a few scanning attempts and quite some time to recognize when it finally did. Alternatively, you can browse or search books or filter by book publisher to find a title.

Once the book cover has been recognized, the next step instructs you to write your name (or the name associated with your Google+ account) at the top of the Copyright page of the book. You then scan this page with the app and after recognition you will be emailed with the eBook download link(s) for a limited time. If the scan does not recognize at this point, unfortunately you will have to email the developer for manual validation.

Other aspects of the app shows many books that are either discounted or free, however, do not show how to obtain these if you do not already own them.

(At the time of review) there are over 5,000 titles that are available through BitLit as bundled eBooks from publishers such as:

  • Angry Robot Books
  • Brindle & Glass
  • Chicago Review Press
  • ChiZine Publications
  • Coach House Books
  • Holy Macro Books
  • Microcosm Publishing
  • Morgan James Publishing
  • Nimbus Publications
  • O’Reilly Media
  • PM Press
  • Poisoned Pen Press
  • Roaring Forties Press
  • TouchWood Editions
  • Visible Ink Press
  • Wings Press

Disclaimer: we were sent two compatible books by the developer for the purpose of this app review.
