If you haven't already downloaded the addictive and much-hyped Flappy Bird mobile game for iOS or Android, you're out of luck.
Creator Dong Nguyen officially pulled the app from Apple's App Store and Android's Google Play platform, saying he could no longer handle the pressure and stress following its instant success.
On Saturday, Nguyen sent a series of tweets warning that he was going to remove the app in just 22 hours. Fans pleaded with him to keep it available, but by Sunday at 12 p.m. ET, the app was no longer downloadable.
Users who already have the game will still be able to play it.
The reaction to the news has not been positive. In fact, some fans have even threatened to kill the creator or even themselves if the app isn't restored.
Although the app launched in May 2013, it became an overnight sensation this week as it climbed to the top free app in Apple's App Store and Google Play for Android. The game was reportedly bringing in about $55,000 in ad revenue [1] .
Perhaps the app went viral because it is so frustrating play. The concept of the game is to keep a bird afloat by tapping it through a series of obstacles. The game is designed to be simple, but the task is extremely difficult.
