The iPhone is probably, at this point, the most commonly used camera on Earth. It takes millions of snapshots, every day, and some of them are so great, or so memorable, it’d be nice to have a physical copy. But printing and mailing photos is expensive… unless you’re using Flag.
Photo Printing Via Mail
Flag is, in theory, pretty simple. Just take photos, as you usually do. When you have a photo you like, or if you feel like sending your friends every last photo, you simply go through, mark the photos, edit them, and tell the app where you want them sent. It’s even got a neat function where by rotating the screen, you can adjust the crop of the thumbnail, giving you a better idea of what’s in the image and what you might want to cut out.
Why Is It Free?
That said, you might have a reasonable question; photo printing is not cheap, and in fact it’s often quite expensive. How is Flag making it free for the user?
The short answer is that Flag sells advertising. When your photo is printed and shipped out, a full ad is on the back. Flag promises that the ad will be “inspiringâ€, whatever that may mean, and even if it isn’t, heck, you’re still saving a lot of money on digital photo printing. If you don’t want the ads, you can just pay for the prints.
Free Photos
If you’ve ever priced out printing digital photos or, for that matter, just priced a digital photo printer, it’s really hard to argue with “free†as a price incentive in an arena where prices haven’t adjusted to the realities of Facebook. And if nothing else, the fact that you can crop, edit, print, and even create “jigsaw†prints as seen above for nothing is a compelling idea. If that appeals, there’s still time to get in on the Kickstarter; it’s got seven days to go.
