Kick The Ball! FREE Review » 148Apps » iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch App Reviews and News

A little too simple to draw in, Kick The Ball! FREE is a passing distraction for those keen to knock some targets down.

Many childhoods have been cheered by the presence of a soccer ball to kick around, creating tricks and trying to shoot at just the right target. Kick The Ball! FREE captures that kind of spirit, thereby creating a game not unlike the Can Knockdown series but lacking the spark and classiness of that experience.

kicktheball5Each level of Kick The Ball! FREE involves kicking a series of balls at various objects in order to knock bottled drinks down to the ground. Kicking the ball is just a matter of using a finger to drag to the right place on screen before releasing to hit the ball. It’s simple to do, meaning that it’s mostly the angle of the shot that dictates success.

Throughout each level, arrows enable the player to adjust the angle that one approaches the shot at, enhancing the potential strategy of the game. It’s pretty simple though, with up to three stars awarded for the best method. The physics engine works quite well so rarely does one feel cheated out of a decent shot. In all, there are around 100 stages to work through, with the core structure remaining the same and simply the background of each level changing somewhat. It’s a format that never quite evolves to offer anything that exciting.

kicktheball1Kick The Ball! FREE uses a coin-based structure to unlock new sections of the game. It’s possible possible to gain these coins through regular play, if one is patient enough to grind it out, but with the temptation of skipping ahead with an in-app purchase.

Given there are superior (albeit paid for) titles out there, such as the aforementioned Can Knockdown series and Toy Story: Smash It! , it’ll take a pretty staunch soccer fan to be lured into what’s here. Kick The Ball! FREE is a fair distraction but nothing more than that.
