Apple, a company that generates billions of dollars a year in profit, has decided to be generous and spread some Christmas cheer. Earlier in December it announced a Christmas-themed playlist, available to those on the American iTunes Store. The eight free songs were available to those who use the Apple Store application â" an app that lets people purchase products from Apple stores using their phones and tablets. Sadly, that offer wasnât available to South Africans.
What is, though, is Appleâs 12 days of Gifts [1] . This simple app will start giving away gifts from the 26th of December until the 6th of January. Appleâs description lists some of the gifts being films, music, apps, and books on the iTunes Store. Sadly, the local iTunes store doesnât have all of the content of the American store, so there maybe a some of those free gifts that are not available to local users. Still, thereâs nothing stopping anybody from registering an American iTunes account to take advantage of some free downloads.
Thankfully, the fact that it only goes live on the 26th of December gives people lots of time to grab the app and prepare. But Apple also warns that each of the daysâ content will only be available for 24 hours â" so itâs a case of download or miss out. Best get those extra December gigabytes prepared, who knows what youâll end up finding in your virtual stockings.

Eleven years ago Christo started writing about technology for one of South Africa's (then) leading computer magazines. His first review? A Samsung LCD monitor. Hey, it was hot news, back then. Nowadays he gets more excited about photography, cars, game consoles, and faster internet connections. He's sort of an Apple fan, but will take any opportunity to remind you about his Windows-powered home theatre PC and desire to own a vanilla Android tablet. Â Currently uses: Apple 13-inch Macbook Pro with Retina Display, Apple iPhone 5, Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000, Audiofly AF78 Earphones, Xbox 360, Nikon D50.
