Baby, it's cold outside  so stay indoors and learn how to code with Codeacademy's new Hour of Code iOS app.
The free app provides a crash course in computer programming, including strings, numbers, Booleans, variables, comparisons, conditions, and "if else " statements.
In less than an hour, you can learn the building blocks for creating more complex codes, including full applications and games.
"Hour of Code is the perfect way to get started programming and a great reference on the go to refresh your mind of the concepts you need to know every day," the app description said.
Go from zero to programming in less than an hour (it shouldn't take more than 30 minutes, tops, to complete the mobile courses) with detailed explanations and examples of each step. Meant for quick on-the-go exercises, the phone-based program is simply a precursor to Codeacademy's online activities, which provide a more in-depth learning experience.
Codeacademy joins Code.org in a global campaign to encourage tech users of every age to learn computer programming.
The nonprofit Code.org on Monday launched its "Hour of Code" initiative , with the help of tech superstars like Google, Amazon, Apple, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jack Dorsey. Log on to Code.org to join the millions already learning via interactive online tutorials aimed at everyone from beginners to multi-lingual coders.
These programs help kick off Computer Science Education Week 2013, which began Monday with a special 107th birthday Google doodle tribute to computer scientist Grace Hopper [1] .
Codeacademy's Hour of Code iOS app is currently available for free download [2] in the Apple iTunes Store. Those who get bitten by the coding bug can continue their studies online  for free  at Codeacademy.com [3] .
