Cycloramic Camera App for Hands Free Panoramas

Call this a weekend novelty. Call it a party trick. Call it fun. There are quite a few ways and Apps to take panorama photos on mobile phones. The camera in iOS comes with its own panorama function and there are any number of Apps on that platform and other platforms that let you whirl either yourself or your Smartphone in a circle to take a panoramic view of what’s around you. This weekend I discovered Cycloramic [1] , an iOS App that takes panoramas, but offers a unique and entertaining hands free mode.

The hands free mode uses the tiny motors that set off the vibrations on your phone for alerts and rings. Placing the phone upright on a flat surface the motors will automagically rotate the iPhone 360 degrees recording a photo as it does so.

Once complete Panoramic will save the content to your camera roll as a 15 second movie, or allow you to export it directly to Instagram. Of course if you save it to your camera roll you can send it anywhere you like. The App comes with a number of editing features, including filters, and you can export your panorama in various sizes. The App description says you can export a panorama up to 40MP and claims to be the highest resolution panorama App out there.
