We’ve got a pair of newly updated apps to kick off today’s Apps Worth Downloading column. First is Yelp, the business-finding app that offers user reviews to help you find out where to go for just about anything. We’ve also got Duolingo, which teaches users new languages by turning lessons into games. Finally comes Monster Adventures, a role-playing title that has players creating teams of monsters to complete quests and fight battles.

What’s it about? Search for information about businesses wherever you are with Yelp, with access to user reviews and deals you can find in the areas around you.
What’s cool? Yelp is a one-stop shop for information about businesses in your area. You can use the app to search for what’s nearby wherever you are and find information like menus, business’s phone numbers, and user ratings for various different businesses. You can also use Yelp to check in to different places and share your location with other users, and Yelp also brings access to deals and coupons that can be redeemed at various businesses. The latest update to Yelp adds lots of polish and bug fixes, and adds a new navigation system that makes it easier for users to upload photos.

What’s it about? Duolingo provides users with ways to learn languages such as Spanish, German, Italian and English by turning lessons into games.
What’s cool? Learning a new language can be tough, unless it’s also fun. Duolingo looks to make games out of the lessons necessary to learn new languages, providing users with a number of games as they pick a language and learn the basics, from common phrases to kinds of food. You can also compete with friends as you translate real-world phrases and track your progress over time. Duolingo has just been updated with a fresh redesign for iOS 7 for a new look and better performance.

What’s it about? Role-playing title Monster Adventures sends players into a world in which they’ll create and gather monsters to help you fight and complete quests.
What’s cool? Players of games such as The Legend of Zelda and Pokemon will recognize elements from both series in Monster Adventures. Players will work their way through a top-down role-playing game in which they’ll complete quests, explore wilderness and fight creatures, all while creating and capturing monsters of their own to help along the way. You’ll also go hunting for loot deep in the wilderness, but while the deeper you go searching, the better stuff you’ll find, you’ll also risk it all against tougher enemies â€" if you die, anything you found will be lost. Monster Adventures also includes a multiplayer mode that lets you pit your team of monsters against those of other players.
Who’s it for? If you like action-adventure titles and monster hunting games, you’ll find a lot to enjoy about Monster Adventures.
What’s it like? Both Monster Warlord [2] and Paper Monsters [3] offer similar mechanics and gameplay.
