What the Cr(App)! #creativeLIVE Photo Week Edition

This past week, I have once again been put into one of those wonderful situations where I say to myself, “I am SO glad that I live in Seattle”. The reason for that exclamation this time? Because of my glorious geographical location, I am able to be a member of the studio audience at Creative Live [1] during their week long photography workshop series “Photo Week [2] ”.

What the cr(app)!! This is awesome.

So, what does this have to do with What the Cr(App)? Well,  I was fortunate enough to be in Dan Milner [3] ’s talk on “The Tools of Storytelling” during which he discussed a fairly new storytelling app called @Blurb. Now, I Know that this series is usually about apps that make you go huh!? in a not so great way but this one made me go huh!? in the best way possible.

This innovative app (born from the bookmaking website of the same name [4] ) allows its users to create rich multimedia stories that can be shared across a variety of social media platforms. In short, Blurb puts the power of creative storytelling directly in your hands.

Currently available for download on your  iPhone or iPad,  the basic version (the free one) makes it easy for users to work through their story. To start, you can add up to eight photos in each story, and stop there if you want. If you want to though, Blurb gives you the option to add a variety of different media. You can add one 30-second audio clip per image in the story & one 10-second video clip per story. What about aesthetics? Well, there are seven “themes” for stories & various page layouts to choose from in order to make your rich media book unique before you hit publish and send it out into the world. For a free app, this is pretty sweet laundry list of capabilities.

If you are looking for a little more bang, you can get it for $1.99 via a one time in-app payment. This will get you an additional eight themes for stories, up to 20 images in a story one 30-second audio clip per image in story & three 30-second video clips per story â€" up to 30 seconds each.

Oh, and one more thing… You can even create an actual, tangible soft or hardcover book right from the app from any photograph only stories you create on Blurb Mobile.

2. Edit your book

Sounds pretty cool, right? Well, I can tell you… IT IS. I am already hooked and working on my first story “creativeLIVE Photo Week: behind the scenes”. But, don’t take my word for it, hit download and take it for a test drive yourself.

This app is AMAZEBALLS.
