JARVIS app

Well folks, Tuesday, September 10 is finally here -- in a few short hours (depending upon when you're reading this), the latest iPhone beans will be spilled all over Apple's Cupertino headquarters, and we'll have a final close-up of iOS 7, presumably with a few final goodies the company has been holding back. The only bad part is, then the iPhone 6 rumors will start anew… (groan)

Iron Man's JARVIS Voice Assistant Now Available on iPhone

Feeling a bit like Tony Stark these days? If so, you'll want to head to the App Store and download Marvel's new second screen app for Iron Man 3, which recreates Stark's JARVIS virtual assistant right on the iPhone. The free app creates customized alerts at your command to wake you in the morning, check the weather, post to Facebook and even download ringtones. And when you're ready to watch the movie on Blu-ray, the app also makes a great companion for unlocking hidden files and suits already embedded in the disc. Marvel's Iron Man 3 - JARVIS: A Second Screen Experience is now available from the App Store.

Opera Releases Coast App for iPad

Although it already has a version of its traditional web browser on iOS, Opera is going the extra mile by debuting a new app called Coast, which the company bills as "the browser that should have come with the iPad." Using gesture-based controls, Coast by Opera promises to make it effortless to navigate the web, while being able to create a completely personalized experience for each user. "Websites and apps today invite you to interact in new ways, but browsers have been stuck in a keyboard-and-mouse world," the company explains on its website. "They felt outdated, and that bothered us. Why? Because we make browsers for a living. We are passionate about making the internet better." Coast by Opera is a free download, so grab it and see if it's worthy of the hype.

Amazon Kindle for iOS Receives Mandatory Update Ahead of iOS 7

With iOS 7 apparently on track for release sometime this month, developers are racing to get compatibility updates into the App Store before Apple pulls the trigger. One such update is Amazon Kindle for iOS 3.9.2, which the e-tailer calls "a required update before upgrading to iOS7," assuming you don't want to lose all of the e-books you've downloaded. "This is a fix for a Kindle issue with the upcoming iOS7 OS upgrade that may cause customers to have to re-register and re-download books from Amazon," the release notes explain, while encouraging users to "please download and install." Hey, you don't have to tell us twice… we already did.

Google Play Now Offering 32GB Nexus 7 with T-Mobile LTE

Engadget reported Monday that Google Play is finally making good on promises of an LTE-equipped model of the 2013 Nexus 7, which is now available for $349 with 32GB of storage. The unlocked tablet comes equipped with 2GB of T-Mobile data service for one month, but is also compatible with LTE service on Verizon and AT&T as well, which is pretty darned convenient. If you'd rather not buy direct from Google, this configuration will also be landing in T-Mobile retail stores next month… or you could just wait for the next iPad, which is also rumored to be right around the corner.

FireCore Releases Infuse 1.4 with AirPlay Subtitles

Still searching for a slick way to watch videos on your iOS device? FireCore announced an update to its Infuse app, adding a plethora of AirPlay enhancements to version 1.4. In addition to subtitles over AirPlay, Infuse now has better background playback while wirelessly beaming content to an Apple TV, which means users can multitask in other apps at the same time without dinging their battery life. Last but not least, the update offers "smoother and crisper videos" as well as a 30 percent reduction in the size of the app. Existing users can grab the free update on the App Store right now.
