While their press event yesterday (10 September) would note something a little more important as being the centre of their attention, American technology giants Apple have revealed what could be a key feature of both the iOS7 operating system and the two new iPhone 5 models, with the company confirming the launch date of their new âiTunes Radioâ service.
The same day as unveiling the iPhone 5C and 5S to the world, the company have formally revealed their rumoured radio service as being geared towards a launch date of next Wednesday (18 September) along with the iOS7, 2 days ahead of the above-mentioned devices.
Set to be available on Appleâs portable devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), desktop (Mac and PC), and Apple TV, the service will see radio stations available to users for free (stored via the iCloud with the ability for an account to instantly access the service across platforms), personalising them based on user preferences, under the tagline of: âthe more you listen, the more personalised your stations become.â
The service is noted as containing over 300 âDJ-curated and genre-focused stationsâ, with the evolution of stations occurring via download numbers and live streaming from users, in a similar manner to other music streaming platforms such as Spotify, although iTunes Radioâs unique âstationsâ angle will also contain the abilities to âbuild custom stationsâ and âmake live changesâ to their service whilst listening, along with .
In addition, âiTunes Matchâ subscribers are being offered commercial-free iTunes Radio access, though non-users of that service are advised that they will only hear an âoccasional adâ.
Appleâs official webpage for iTunes Radio said of its potential: âCheck out iTunes Radio on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Mac, PC, or Apple TV. Youâll have access to more than 300 DJ-curated and genre-focused stations â" including everything from Hard Rock to Doo Wop, all with crystal-clear sound quality. Your stations evolve based on the music you play and download. So the more you use iTunes Radio and iTunes, the more iTunes Radio knows what you like to listen to â" and the more it can play music youâll love.
iTunes Radio makes it easy to get songs out of your head and into your library. Just check your History for a list of everything youâve heard or added to your Wish List. When you find a song you want, tap Buy â" on a song thatâs currently playing or one in your History or Wish List â" and the track downloads instantly from iTunes. And with iTunes in the Cloud, Wish List is available on all your devices.â
While the service adding a more budgeted iTunes experience will be measured in its impact after its release, will downloading it instantly be an important item on many Apple usersâ âWish Listsâ over the coming week?
