A fake Apple advertisement has been circulating through social media networks, promoting the new âwaterproofâ feature of iOS 7 [1] and apparently causing some gullible individuals to destroy their iPhones.
âUpdate to iOS 7 and become waterproof,â the ad, thought to be created on the image sharing forum 4Chan [2] , states. âWith the new features and groundbreaking innovation of iOS 7, your iPhone is able to instantly detect sudden changes in thermo-distribution with the touch sensitive screen and home button.â
The ad is apparently so similar to Appleâs official marketing that some unsuspecting users took the plunge and dunked their devices to test the new feature, resulting in nothing but destroyed phones.
Some used Twitter to vocalize their less than impressed complaints on being tricked.
Whoever said ios7 was waterproof fuck you

But other Twitter users mocked those who fell for the prank, stressing that a software (internal) update will not influence the hardware (exterior) of the phone.
So people actually thought that iOS 7 makes your phone waterproof? hahahaha

Currently lollling at the people who thought installing iOS 7 made their iPhone waterproof, then tried it out #idiots pic.twitter.com/SalwGL3QdP [7] [8]

So buyer beware: while the iOS 7 update does provide users with new features and a different visual layout, it certainly does not include any sort of incredible waterproof resilience.
