iPhone Stolen at Daren Supermarket - Police & Fire

The latest iPhone theft in Darien.

An iPhone left at Whole Foods somewhere between 4:30 and 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18 was taken by someone instead of being returned to the owner.

The vitcim told Darien police that the phone was left on a table or in a shopping cart in the kids' play area of the store.

The phone is valued at $300, and its loss was reported to Darien police late the next morning.

According to a recent article [1] on the Macworld magazine website, some police departments are welcoming the new operating system for Apple iPhones, iOS7.

"[L]aw enforcement officials are actively encouraging iPhone and iPad users to upgrade to Apple’s new mobile operating system," the article states. "Why? Because the new Activation Lock feature in iOS 7 makes the phone very difficult to use or to wipe and resell if it gets stolen. Police and prosecutors hope that this technological development will lead to a reduction in smartphone thefts."
