Yesterday, the new gold iPhone 5S was released along with the silver and space gray models. If you ordered online, within 10 minutes of the release, the shipping date had slipped to 7 to 10 business days. By 12:30 PST, projected shipping dates were already backlogged into October.
Yep, people wanted the gold in massive numbers. Some people camped out in front of the Apple Stores for almost 24 hours, but only a few lucky ones in the front managed to score a gold iPhone 5S.
But by the time Ilya Olkhovskiy, who was 30th in line, reached the front, the gold iPhones were sold out. The 22-year-old had waited for more than 20 hours.
What the hell happened to Appleâs Marketing and Analysis division? Boy, did they drop the ball. How the hell did they miss that the gold iPhone would be the most popular?
Steve Jobs must be turning over in his grave right about now.
On a related note, iOS 7 was released Wednesday. Of course, massive number of iPhone users simultaneously tried to download the new iOS with predictable results.
It took me 2 and 1/2 hours to download and install the new update on my iPhone. I waited to update Mrs. Aewlâs phone that night after I got off work at Midnight. Took 45 minutes to update hers.
Hereâs a screenshot of my home screen. Donât laugh at the apps I have. Iâve since cleaned it up a bit.Seems a bit cartoony to me at first, but after a couple of days, Iâm getting used to it. The dynamic movement when opening and closing an App is a bit disconcerting at first, but after a while, I hardly noticed it.
Yeah, Iâve still got the iPhone 4S. I would love to go to the 5S, but right now we are spending all our free money on paying down debt so we can be debt free next year.
