A new and refreshing "mind" game, Big Brain Master is an addictive puzzler that'll keep players entertained for hours.
Note: At the time of writing, the tournament mode was not working but there is believed to be a fix on the agenda very soon from the developers.
Big Brain Master is a pure puzzle game that tells a story whilst engaging the player in some enjoyable and challenging puzzles. A new and artful take on “mind†games, it’s simple and entertaining approach manages to keep players guessing without being too complex.
The art style is highly detailed, with a nice, clean, and simple graphical outlook, and the puzzles are presented in an interesting format which gives it an interesting and refreshing feel whilst playing. Navigating the user interface is nice and straightforward, and the design layout is linear enough to not overcomplicate by looking too clunky or crowded. Each of the 250+ levels are divided up into seven puzzle styles that are each distinctive from the last. Although this might seem refreshing enough to most players, I personally feel that perhaps having less levels per style and more of a variety of puzzle styles would have made it slightly less repetitive, as after a while gameplay seemed to become a little tiresome and I felt like I was just repeating actions that had already become less of a challenge.
As far as the story goes, it felt vague and disjointed from the puzzles. Part of that may have had something to do with the bad use of English language throughout. Since the levels were so long between story segments, it seemed more of an afterthought than something that was relevant to gameplay. However, this didn’t detract from the enjoyment of the puzzles, and gave more reasoning for the incorporation of more styles of play.
On a more positive note, the two extra modes were a unique touch and having the ability to play through extra mini-games for EXP felt like a worthy addition. The other mode, an online tournament, allows players to compete with others, but unfortunately it was not working at the time. It sounds like a good premise though, and the idea seems like it will work well.
Overall, Big Brain Master is very accessible, highly addictive, and very entertaining for puzzle lovers and anyone who likes a bit of a challenge. Even though the story seemed lacking and the narrative seemed slightly off-course, this little gem is sure to give players hours of amusement and enjoyment.
