BBM for iPhone and Android delayed

BBM-crossplatformBlackberry has confirmed BBM will soon be available as a free download for Apple and Android devices, however, not for Windows Phone.

“Widening appeal for BBM could be a clever way of inventing itself,” said experts.

But the app was due to roll-out on Saturday to Android devices and Sunday to iOS devices, however, Blackberry have had to delay the roll-out to some countries as false apps disguised as BBM have been released. Consumers flocked to the Google Play Store only to find many, some even with the developer name as Blackberry, claiming to be BBM.

Forums were hosting a leaked, pre-release version of BBM app, which anyone could download or install.

“As soon as we are able, we will begin a staggered country roll-out of BBM for Android and continue the roll-out of BBM for iPhone’s” said Varghese Thomas director of corporate communications for India.

BBM has been described as Blackberry’s ‘crown jewels’ and the service hit a chord with mass consumer audience.

BBM could prove disruptive to other messaging services such as WhatsApp or Skype.

More information about the BBM roll-out will be on our blog when it’s been released by Blackberry.
