» Apple’s iPhone launch today but iPhone 5s faces supply shortage

Apple’s iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c go on sale today in the US and a few select countries such as China, Franc, United Kingdom, Australia, Japan, etc. But ahead of the launch, Apple’s online store for the US website is down right now. You can check that out here. [1]  There are various reports that iPhone 5s is going to be strained.

According to MacRumours [2] , the supply for the iPhone 5s seems to be constrained. The report says that, “international stores sold out relatively quickly for the device.” Apple had only opened pre-orders for iPhone 5c and not iPhone 5s.

The BBC has also reported [3] that mobile networks had said that the “stock of the latest premium model â€" the 5S â€" was severely limited in the UK, and would likely cause disappointment.”

According to Barron’s [4] which quoted Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster as saying that sales numbers for iPhone 5s and 5c could be “held back by a shortage of the 5s.”

Munster says that “We believe the 5S is more production-constrained than the iPhone 5 was at launch, likely due to the addition of the finger print technology.”

9to5Mac reports that states that the Gold and White iPhone will be hard to get at the launch due to supply constraint. The report adds that, the iPhone 5s will be available in limited quantity, and Apple is expecting the Space Gray model to be most popular, according to our sources. Of the iPhone 5s units scheduled for delivery to Apple Stores for the launch this Friday, about an average of three out of every four units will be a Space Gray model. [5]
