Yahoo! has brought an update to their Flickr for iPhone app with several new features including user customisable photo filters.  The update really brings the app up to speed with other photo sharing apps like Instagram and Facebook and gives users the ability to not only have a filter but edit the effect of that filter.

When taking a photo within Flickr for iPhone you can turn on the available filters and view them live prior to you snapping the photo to see if you like the desired effect.  Once you find one you like, snap the photo and then you can edit the effect

The New Filters in Flickr for iPhone

such as the vignette impact of the filter on your photo simply by pinching and pulling to the desired level.  It’s a simple feature but can make a dramatic difference on your photos.

You can of course apply these filters to photos you have already taken prior to you uploading them to your Flickr account.

Here is the full run down of the updates:

  • The Flickr Mobile App has a brand new set of filters! With a new range of dynamic and stunning effects you’ll be able to personalize your photos like never before.
  • Live filters! Now you can scroll through and preview the effects of each filter before you snap your shot. Choosing the right one is no longer a guessing game.
  • Tired of stock filters? With the Flickr Mobile App you can customize your filters to get the exact effects you’re looking for.
  • We’ve also got new camera tools. Perfectly compose your shots with awesome grids, pinch to zoom, and the ability to lock your focus and exposure points.
  • Professional editing tools. The editing tools you usually pay for are now free with Flickr. Enhance, crop, sharpen, adjust color, use levels, add vignettes and more.
  • Now our camera and editing tools have beautifully animated transitions, giving users the best camera experience yet.

Flickr for iPhone is a free app and is available in the App Store.  You will need a Yahoo! account to use the service which is also free.
