What is SD2 files
SD2 (Sound Designer 2) is a monophonic/stereophonic audio file format, originally developed by Digidesign for their Macintosh-based recording/editing products. An SD2 file can be monophonic or stereophonic. Mono files play all of the sound together through speakers, while stereo files split the sound between two speakers.
The SD2 file has become a widely accepted standard for transferring audio files between editing applications. Most Mac CD-ROM writer software, for example, specifies SD2 or Audio Interchange File Format as the file format needed when making audio CDs. The SD2 has also become accepted among personal computer audio application developers. This makes transferring audio from Mac to PC platforms much easier.
Programs to open SD2 files
On both Mac OS and Windows computers, .sd2 files can be accessed with Apple Quicktime Player and Digidesign Pro Tools. In addition, the Bias Peak program for Mac and the River Past Audio Converter for Windows are compatible with .sd2 files.
Questions to convert SD2 files to audio
1. I need to convert several thousand samples from SD2 to aiff or wav so they can be used with pc’s. I am wondering if there is a good program for this.
2. The SD2 music files are apparently Mac compatible but not PC compatible. And I need to convert these files to a format which will enable me to burn music CDs with my PC. Thanks!
