How to Save HQ Youtube Videos for Offline Viewing on iOS

Saving YouTube videos to your iPhone, iPod or iPad for offline viewing is really easy. All you need is an app. The App Store has a few apps that will let you store YouTube videos offline.

There are many reasons you may want or need to save the videos to your device; the convenience of not having to buffer or put up with low quality videos and of course when there is no available WI-FI network for your none cellular devices.

Offline YouTube

I recently started using ViaTube for my offline YouTube needs, and it actually works really well and supports quite a few impressive features. One thing I really like about it, is that it can play YouTube videos without the regular location constraints and I no longer have to put up with YouTube videos that are so low in quality that they are barely watchable.

I don’t know about you, but I hate viewing a low quality, choppy video when I know there is a better version just beyond my grasp. We’ve all been there, trying to watch a video away from home on an iPhone and being presented with some video that’s far from acceptable. VIATube lets you download the HQ version on the video even over a cellular network; no more barely discernible videos!

It’s not just the offline capacities that make VIATube an awesome app, there are a few other nice touches that just make the experience more pleasant.

VIATube Features:

  • Background mode â€" Continue playing playlist even when the screen is turned off or switching apps (great for music videos).
  • Bypass location restrictions!
  • AirPlay enabled , play video on Apple TV.
  • HD video enabled, get the best YouTube video quality.
  • Editable playlist â€" You can import Youtube playlist to local playlist on your iPad, iPhone or iPod.
  • TV-Out enabled, watch video on big screen.
  • Smart cache videos in background, play video without Internet connection (offline mode).
  • Quick search, support keyword suggestion.
  • Support remote control.

High Quality YouTube

Downloading videos is really easy, all you have to do is start a video and click the little “+” symbol located on the upper-right of the app. It will ask you to select a playlist to save the video to and then start downloading it in the background.

Another awesome feature is the ability to bypass the locations based restrictions. Have you even gotten the message saying that a certain video is not viewable in a certain location? In the upper most screenshot you can see that there is a little flag showing that I currently have it set to Canada. If there is a certain video that can only be viewed from the US, just click the flag and select US. This will cause VIATube to tell YouTube that you are in the US and should be shown the video. There are many locations that you can switch to, I’ll list them at the bottom of this article.

You don’t need to have a fast internet connection to watch high quality YouTube videos anymore, even when on a cellular network. When saving a video to your iOS device, just switch the HD Quality option on.

VIATube works great as a music player as well. Download a few of your favorite music videos and it will play the songs (music videos) in the background as if they were songs.

There is a free version of VIATube and paid version. The free version only allows you to store 3 videos and has a playlist limitation, the paid version does not have either of these limitations.

Of course you are not limited to VIATube, there are a few different apps that provide offline video capabilities on your iOS device. VIATube is simply the app that I like and have been using as my go-to offline YouTube app.

If you are wanting to download HQ YouTube videos to your iPhone, iPod or iPad then defiantly check out the free version of VIATube. If you like it and want to store more than 3 videos then the paid version is only a couple of dollars (currently at the time of writing this it’s only 2.99).

If after trying it, you don’t like it, there are a few other apps in the App Store than can also save videos for offline viewing.

With VIATube you can change your location to:

Worldwide, Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Czech Republic, Egypt, France, Germany, Ghana, United Kingdom, Greece, Hong Kong SAR China, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nigeria, Peru, Philippines, Poland, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Tunisia, Turkey, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, United States and Yemen.
