The iOS 6.1 jailbreak was possible through the redsn0w only for the iPod Touch 4th gen and a couple of older generation iPhones and that too was a tethered jailbreak possible, but now with the evasi0n tool the jailbreaking is possible on any iOS device having the latest iOS 6.1 version, and this is an untethered jailbreak. The jailbreaking is possible on the iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, the iPad 1,2,3 and 4th gen, iPad Mini and the iPod Touch 4th and 5th gen, so covers all the devices that are updated to the latest OS version from Apple.
Here is how you can Jailbreak the iOS 6.1 on your iOS device:
Requirements:
- evasi0n tool for your computer OS -
- Download evasi0n for Windows â€" Click here [1]
- Download evasi0n for Mac OS X â€" Click here [2]
- An iPhone, iPad or iPod running iOS 6.0 through 6.1 (you may check in Settings / General / About => Version)
- A USB cable to connect the device to the computer
* Do keep in mind that the tool is only jailbreaking your device, and it doesn’t guarantee anything about the data present in your iPhone, iPad or the iPod Touch. Although none of the data in our devices got lost or corrupted, we suggest you to do a complete backup of it before you proceed with the jailbreaking. For backing up of the data, you need to connect it to the computer and open iTunes and there you would get the option for the same.
To get the jailbreak started, you need to have the device connected to the computer using the USB cable. Extract the evasi0n zip file, and open evasi0n.exe and you would see a message that the device is identified and is compatible for the jailbreak.
Once you see that, you can hit jailbreak for the process to start, and it would take a few minutes and several steps while the jailbreak process is happening. It would take the information and then initially inject the jailbreak data into the device.
Once the data is transferred, the device is rebooted and gets ready for the jailbreak.
 
After the reboot, the stage 2 jailbreak data is injected into the iOS device, and the most important step â€" upload Cydia app and its packages list.
Once the Cydia and the packages list is uploaded, the tool would ask you to unlock the device and tap on the Jailbreak icon that is present in the app list in the iOS device. Once you hit that, the screen would go black for a moment and then return to the home screen.
Below is the icon that would be present in the normal app list, and you just need to hit it once to prompt the device to do the process.
Once the jailbreak icon is pressed, the next process occurs where the final jailbreak data is prepared and sent to the iOS device and the further steps happen in the device itself where it reboots a few times, and the evasi0n tool’s job is done.
Here’s the Cydia installed in the iPad Mini that we jailbroke using the evasi0n tool, and in the iOS version 6.1.
