SourceForge is the largest website to download free open source software for Windows, Mac and Linux.
It’s pretty easy to find the most popular and high rated software on sourceforge with Google [2] , there are large amounts of hidden gems on SourceForge haven’t been introduced by even the most popular freeware blog like TechSupportAlert.
SoftPedia is the best alternative to CNET.com, when I want to download a free software, I’ll navigate to SoftPedia at first, because it’s very reliable, any software uploaded to Softpeida will be scanned with mulitple security software before it’s published, and it allows to sort the software by user rating or download amount, in most cases, if the average user rating of a software is larger than 4 star and its download amount is larger than 5000, it’s an excellent program.
FileHippo is another reliable place to download Windows software, it allows to choose between almost all versions of the software you selected. If the latest version of a certain application is too bloat, or it does not compatible with your operating system, maybe you can find an older version of it on FileHippo.
Sysinternals Suite contains a lot of useful utilities for Windows, such as:
