Harrogate company launches apprenticeship iPhone app

Andrew Jones, the MP for Harrogate and Knaresborough, attended the launch of a groundbreaking mobile app, developed by a company, at South Thames College on Thursday (10 January).

The free app, by Barker Brooks Communications in Harrogate, incorporates many of the features of their market-leading Apprenticeship Guide.

With information on the whole range of available schemes as well as employers and learning providers, the Apprenticeship Guide App brings invaluable knowledge to the fingertips of anyone interested in vocational training.

The app allows users to find all the background information they need, and to search through apprenticeship schemes by sector.

They can then find out more about employers looking for recruits, and can make direct contact with the tap of a finger. The same is true for a broad range of specialist apprenticeship learning providers, who are arranged in a regional database.

Andrew said:

We have a low rate of unemployment in our area and a 22 percent increase in people in apprenticeships since 2009/10 has helped that rate has stay low.

It is vital that people who are considering applying have regular access to the right information so that they can get on track to a career, meaning they can better provide for themselves and their families.

The Apprenticeship Guide has been available in schools and libraries for a few years, but this app makes the information available instantly.

The app launch in Westminster is another triumph for Barker Brooks, I am always proud to see local businesses having national success.

Barker Brooks’ Chairman Les Charneca said:

Creating a free app is a natural progression for us.

We’re already in print and online, so where else could we go except onto our users’ phones?

In any case, every study shows that smartphones are the way forward as far as information goes, particularly where young people are concerned, so we thought we’d better do something to address that reality. We’re really looking forward to seeing what people think of the app.

The Apprenticeship Guide App is available for download on iPhone now. An Android version is currently in production.
