Look, there’s no point trying to stay loyal to Apple’s new Maps app in iOS 6. Sure, Consumer Reports says it’s a semi-adequate mapping tool , but even Tim Cook has officially recommended [1] that iOS 6 users experiencing poor Maps performance might look to alternatives… And what’s one of the most reputable alternatives? Google Maps, of courseâ€"and now iPad/iPhone users can head over to the web app [2] and find that Street View has been made available.
Oh, Street View, how we’ve missed you. Apple’s alternative is the fancy 3D flyovers, but how many of you have leveraged that to prepare for a real-life road trip? Apart from being riddled with bugs, Apple’s Flyovers just don’t feel as contextual as Street View, so for the time being, users of Google’s Maps web app will be happy to know that the feature is now offered apart from the long lost app.
If you followed Tim Cook’s advice and added a home screen icon for Google’s web app, then all you have to do is load the page and look for the same old Street View icon. From there, it’s almost like you’re back at home in the Google Maps app, but not quite…
