Look, thereâs no point trying to stay loyal to Appleâs new Maps app in iOS 6. Sure, Consumer Reports says itâs a semi-adequate mapping tool , but even Tim Cook has officially recommended [1] that iOS 6 users experiencing poor Maps performance might look to alternatives⦠And whatâs one of the most reputable alternatives? Google Maps, of courseâ"and now iPad/iPhone users can head over to the web app [2] and find that Street View has been made available.
Oh, Street View, how weâve missed you. Appleâs alternative is the fancy 3D flyovers, but how many of you have leveraged that to prepare for a real-life road trip? Apart from being riddled with bugs, Appleâs Flyovers just donât feel as contextual as Street View, so for the time being, users of Googleâs Maps web app will be happy to know that the feature is now offered apart from the long lost app.
If you followed Tim Cookâs advice and added a home screen icon for Googleâs web app, then all you have to do is load the page and look for the same old Street View icon. From there, itâs almost like youâre back at home in the Google Maps app, but not quiteâ¦
