NEW YORK (NBC) - It's autumn again and across the country, the "leaf peepers" are out… people looking for nature's annual display of bright foliage.
NBC's PC Mike Wendland says there are some apps that can help those peepers find the best places to enjoy a view of the changing leaves.
New England's Yankee Magazine developed the free Leaf Peeper app for iPhone and Android to help readers find peak foliage not just out east but across the country. You can report how the trees are turning in your area, offer comments, even send in a photo to help others see current conditions.
If you are really into fall colors, you may want to invest $4.99 for the Audubon Trees app, a very comprehensive guide to identifying trees. They have photos and information on 700 species. There's a journal included to keep track of what you saw and where. It's good to know what tree those bright red leaves came from.
One last app that may come in handy while you're out and about the countryside this fall, the Inntouch Bed and Breakfast locator. Search an area and find a list of bed and breakfast places, reviews and more that help you find that perfect getaway during your fall color touring.
