Fans of Joan Miró will know that this famous surrealist was born in Barcelona, and might even have visited the museum there. Now, there’s a different way to discover Joan Miró’s influence on the city: via a new art app which allows you to retrace Joan Miró’s steps in Barcelona.

The Joan Miró app

The Joan Miró route in Barcelona is a trail that’s been designed by the Joan Miró Foundation [1] to lead pedestrians and cyclists through Miró’s Barcelona. It allows you to discover this artist’s work, as well as parts of the city of Barcelona you might not know, in a way that is interactive, fun, and â€" importantly â€" completely free.

All you have to do is download the PDF of the Joan Miró route map [2] , as well as accompanying free iPhone app [3] . Once you’ve done this, you can enjoy Joan Miró’s work in Barcelona to your heart’s content, and uncover the stories behind nineteen different feats of creativity that lie everywhere from the Rambla to the airport.

If you’re not among the privileged few in possession of an iPhone, we’d recommend downloading the PDF anyway. It’s not particularly detailed, but is a great place to start researching Joan Miró’s work in Barcelona. The app is also complemented by real-world exhibition “Joan Miró. Appunts”, which can be found underneath the Diagonal metro station.

The Joan Miró app is available in English, Castilian and Catalan Spanish. It’s also possible to request a guided tour â€" write to bgb@barcelonaguidebureau.com for more information.
