Boxee sends Cloudee video-sharing app public with iPhone 5, iOS 6 optimisation

Boxee has taken the private beta tags off Cloudee, its iPhone app that let users share personal videos from the cloud.

Anyone can now download and use the iPhone, web, and desktop application for free, which now includes easier-to-use features.

Boxee detailed the upgrades in a blog post [1] , including a desktop uploader that provides non-iPhone users a space to upload and store videos to the system via Windows and Mac operating systems.

A new web interface allows users to go even further, managing videos from any browser just by logging into a Cloudee account. "Start streaming, organizing and sharing videos with more than just your thumbs," the blog said.

With a focus on the mobile app, the new update heavily integrates social media, letting users share to all Facebook friends or anyone from their address book, as well as quickly publish videos or collections to Facebook or Twitter feeds. All videos are private until expressly shared.

"If you're like us, as you go through your videos to share them you'll experience a serendipitous feeling of re-discovery â€" bringing forgotten memories back to life," Boxee wrote in June announcing its new app.

"We found concerts long passed, videos of our kids that they had filmed without us knowing, videos of loved ones no longer with us. It became a very powerful connection to our past, and to each other. We think it can do the same thing for millions of other people," it added.

Cloudee is optimised for iPhone 5 and iOS 6, and includes enhanced privacy for contacts and videos.

New and existing Cloudee users will still receive free unlimited storage, for the time being. Once the developers introduce premium accounts, users will have access to watch and share videos as before, but may need to upgrade to Cloudee Premium to keep uploading additional videos, according to its latest blog.
