New Walt Disney World iPhone and iPad app gives real-time results on ride wait times

Now that Walt Disney World has made free Wi-Fi a part of its guest experience , a newly revamped iOS app promises to offer even more features that will assist park-goers here in Orlando.

The new “My Disney Experience â€" Walt Disney World” app is a complete makeover of Verizon ’s Disney Mobile Magic app, and this recast version of the app for iPhones, iPads and iPod touches takes advantage of Disney’s new Next-Gen wireless communication technology to offer real-time updates on theme-park features and services.

Arguably, the “My Disney Experience” app’s biggest feature is that it can offer real-time assessments of wait times for the various rides inside the parks, as well as detailed information about height requirements, FastPass return times and other info you might need to plan your day in the parks better.

But the new app also includes wait times on dining options. Plus, one parent-friendly aspect of the app is that it shows where in the parks guests can find character meet-and-greets at any given time. It offers detailed maps of all Walt Disney World parks, including Typhoon Lagoon, Blizzard Beach, Downtown Disney and the resort hotels. You can even use the app to find out what’s going on at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, as well.

Another potential time-saver is its so-called “Here & Now” feature that even shows you attractions and events based on your current location inside the parks.

Of course, park and parade hours, and show times are featured, as are times for fireworks displays. And, for a limited time, Verizon customers will have exclusive access to premium videos and games on their mobile phones.

For all its almost overwhelming list of features, the app is well-designed with a clean interface that seems to be intuitive for first-time use. The pinch-and-zoom maps offer a bird’s eye view of the parks that are surprising detailed.

You can download the app from the iTunes store or here [1] .
