Itâs Friday, and weâre back with another installment of our regular roundup of downloadable MP3 goodness from around the web. The most notable piece of action this week is the return of Dam-Funk and his download-sharing ways, but thereâs also the new Stars single, Mountain Goats doing the Weeds theme song, and Jason Lytle doing Talk Talk, several interesting remixes, the correct link to a new Thurston Moore track and various other goodness. In other words, thereâs plenty of interesting sounds awaiting you after the jump, and since they wonât cost a penny or land you an RIAA lawsuit, as your attorneys we advise you to start downloading immediately.
Dam-Funk â" âHappyâ
Itâs been a relatively long time since thereâs been any downloadable goodness from the ever-prolific Dam-Funkâs SoundCloud page, but happily that little hiatus has come to an end with the arrival of this instrumental jam. We heart Dam-Funk, and we suggest you click here [1] to grab a piece of this action, which is all squelchy bass and keytar-y awesomeness. Yay.
Mountain Goats â" âLittle Boxesâ
In which the Mountain Goats cover the theme to Weeds. Stoners of the world, rejoice [2] .
Stars â" âHold On When You Get Love And Let Go When You Give Itâ
Fans of Canadian indie, rejoice â" Stars have a new album out soon, and for today only, you can download this track via KCRWâs Track of the Day feature. What are you waiting for? Get clicking [3] !
Matthew Dear â" âHer Fantasyâ (Poolside remix)
Weâre very much looking forward to the new Matthew Dear record, and in the meantime, weâve rather enjoyed this pleasantly cruisy remix of âHer Fantasy,â courtesy of Poolside [4] .
Blood Diamonds â" âPhone Sexâ (Lemonade remix)
Also on the remixing tip, hereâs a pleasantly spaced-out reworking of the Blood Diamonds/Grimes collaboration âPhone Sexâ from San Francisco trio Lemonade. We actually like this better than the original, perhaps because itâs less dance floor and more morning after-oriented. Anyway, itâs pretty great, and you can get it at The Fader [5] .
Lemonade â" âSoftkissâ (Hyetal remix)
And, shit, while weâre discussing Lemonade, hereâs one of their tracks, remixed by UK producer Hyetal. The original version of this song comes from the trioâs recent album Diver â" get the remix via XLR8R [6] .
Lawrence Grey â" âAâ
Also at XLR8R is this grinding and rather oppressive track from LA producer Lawrence Grey â" itâs taken from an album rather appropriately entitled Claustrophilia, and it totally sounds like being at a party in a stuffy tin shed thatâs too small for everyone whoâs turned up to dance. Itâs not bad at all, in other words. Get it here [7] .
Two Fingers â" â101 Southâ
Venerable UK label Ninja Tune has been the source of interesting sounds for the best part of two decades now, so itâs nice to see itâs not letting up any. This is from the upcoming album by Amon Tobinâs hip-hop side project Two Fingers, which is due out on the label in October â" you can download the track now from Pitchfork [8] .
Jason Lytle â" âTomorrow Startedâ
There was such a glut of downloadable action last week that we kinda overlooked this, but itâs definitely worth hearing â" Grandaddyâs Jason Lytle covering Talk Talk for a new compilation of, yâknow, Talk Talk covers. Get it here [9] .
Chelsea Light Moving â" âFrank OâHara Hitâ
And speaking of last week, as per Stereogum, whose link to this track we shared last Friday: âLast week, Matador treated us to another song from Thurston Mooreâs excellent new post-SY band Chelsea Light Moving called âFrank OâHara Hit.â Or so we thought. Turns out, the song posted was not âFrank OâHara Hitâ but a different CLM song called âEmpires Of Time.ââ The correct link is here [10] !
