Life for iPad lets you explore a sample of Life magazine's impressive photo archive, which includes more than 10 million contemporary and archival photographs. Most of the images are decades old, and include Adolf Hitler's 50th birthday celebrations in Germany, John F. Kennedy's funeral in 1963 and a 19-year-old Liza Minelli.

The 2012 World Press Photo Contest, which opened at the NSW State Library last week, features this year's award-winning photos from the top photojournalists around the world. The mobile app is a must-have companion for the exhibition. It requires the exhibition's unique code number or QR code scan.
This app offers an alternative way to stay up to date with the latest news. Top stories are presented visually using photo galleries with detailed captions, and you can share individual photos by email, Twitter or Facebook. Most of the stories are US-centric, and it's limited to a dozen or so galleries from the past 24 hours, but the ''editor's choice'' gallery provides a wider selection from around the world.

Just weeks after music-streaming service Spotify launched in Australia, Telstra has launched its own music-subscription platform, MOG. Users will have access to a database of 16 million songs. The service offers on-demand streaming, unlimited downloads and MOG Radio on the web, iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Android. Good news for Telstra customers: streaming and downloads are unmetered.
