iPhone and iPod Touch are two famous and well-known products of Apple Inc. Apart from being used all over the world, many hackers are creative to enough to make further changes to these masterpieces.
They jailbreak it so that the user would be able to use 3rd party applications without any restrictions set by Apple.
What basically is a jailbreak?
Jailbreaking solely means to modify the Operating system of iPhone or iPod Touch. It is a process that hackers/developers use to allow the users of the devices to download the third party iPod Touch applications and have greater control over their device. However, to make it more clear, jailbreak is basically a process that allows the hackers to access the file system of your device which is usually hidden.
This means the developers have now full access to the files which they had not before jailbreaking. With the access of files being easier than before, the developers of third party applications can now make changes in your device with their cool and interesting iPhone apps . These cool applications can be considered as the sole reason of the rising trend of jailbreaking. This process can be taken as trend settler, as it has provoked a number of iPhone/ iPod Touch users to jailbreak.
Any arguments for Jailbreaking?
There surely are arguments related to jailbreaking. The strongest one is customization. Jailbreaking allows you to customize your iPhone and iPod to more details, like changing the background screen, dial pad or even the themes. Many people consider that Apple is having monopoly in applications and games. This is because the non-jailbreak device will allow only Apple applications and softwares, which means you donât have any freedom in choice.
Jailbreakers also argue that Apple is way too much strict over their devices. In this argument, they also say that the business interest of Apple Company doesnât allow some of the âcoolestâ apps to be available on Apple store thereby; the users should not be restricted in using them.
Further, they also exclaim that Apple store does not have those ringtones that are required, so user should be allowed to download and use customized ones. So, after jailbreaking, users would be able to unlock their phone and change their carrier, other than that from which they purchased it.
 What about arguments against Jailbreaking?
To be honest, they exist too. Apple, no doubt, has strict and tight controls over iOS based products. There is a wide range of the limitations, but one of it limiting the usersâ access to customization and preventing them to use the applications and softwares that havenât come from Appleâs app store.
Apple always wants to ensure the smooth, error-free and high quality experience when its devices are used. By requiring the users to take apps only from Apple store, it ensures that the applications and software has met minimum coding quality and has maximum security. It allows you and other users to be safe from the malicious applications. Anyhow, these third party apps, the user have allowed after jailbreaking may cause several errors in using the devices like freezing, and data corruption. Moreover, jailbreaking would also make you voided of warranty, because Apple wonât accept it as their product, since you have already breached their Operating System and modified it.
The jailbreak compatible devices are as follow:
- iPhone
- iPod Touch
- iPad
- 2nd generation of Apple TV.
6th generation of iPod Nano (However , you should keep in mind that you will have to find jailbreak for it since it is not publically available).
