An Engineering student who created a dubstep producing app has seen his work become the most popular free download in Australia.

Ben Frost, a third-year Engineering student at the University of Sheffield, released Bass Drop last month, an iPhone app which allows dubstep fans to produce studio quality musical beats and bass lines.

The app was the most popular download in Australia during its free trial, and it featured on the homepage of the consumer electronics website, Apple.

It combines a keyboard, a pitch adjuster and a wobble bass synthesizer.

Speaking about Base Drop, Frost said: “It’s the perfect dubstep production aid for newbies, budding and professional producers wanting to quickly jam ideas or create electronic sounds.”

iPhone users in the UK can now download the app for £1.49.
