The City of Dunedin is now providing safety alerts through a new app â" CodeRED Mobile Alert.
The app is a free download for iPhone and Android subscribers. It will allow residents and those traveling through the area to receive instant community and emergency alerts.
The app works similarly to Dunedin's current CodeRED system. Subscribers with a the smartphone app would receive a notification if they are in an affected area of the alert.
Residents who have enrolled for the CodeRED System will continue to receive voice calls, text messages and emails. The smartphone app is an extension of a contract with Emergency Communications Network, LLC, and it comes at no additional cost to the city.
The app also provides subscribers a free, 30-day trial of CodeRED Weather Warning, which alerts users if they are in the direct path of a severe thunderstorm, tornado or flash flood with the option to choose the types of weather notifications they receive.
It is available for a free download on the iTunes store and Google Play.
