Get Your Free App Now!

The Google Chrome browser is now available on iOS devices and what’s surprising is that it is the top free app since it was just released yesterday Ironically, Android invades iOS store on hot list, and you don’t have to spend a dollar to get it because it’s FREE.

It was around 6AM UTC+8 yesterday when I received a tweet update from Google’s head of web spam team, Matt Cutts [2] saying, “You can try out Chrome for Apple iOS here.” Without a doubt, I clicked the link and landed on iTunes. Basically, the browser works similar with the desktop cousin. The browser is available on both iPhone and iPad categories. Google Chrome and other browsers such as Opera, Skyfire of Mozilla is another alternative to Safari mobile browser.

As of this writing, Chrome has received 4.5 stars rating with 5463 reviews from the iOS community. I launched the app and tested its features. I am impressed with the speed of the browser. That was yesterday. However, today I find it a bit slow. I read from PC World,

“Chrome can’t be faster than Safari because Apple is restricting the use of its Nitro JavaScript engine to Safari, while other apps don’t have access to it.”

Pros:

  • Clean interface
  • New voice recognition search
  • Smart incognito tabs
  • Syncs with Google account with bookmarks, open tabs, passwords, etc.

Cons:

  • Slower than Safari
  • Incomplete features, no extensions, add-ons, and you can’t upload files.

If you can stand a slower browser with a clean interface, you can stick to Chrome. I also stumbled upon a blog post on iDownloadblog [3] showing a speed test of Google Chrome browser and Safari using the iPhone. Still, I don’t get it why the app works very slow today. Try it  and see if the browser works well on your iOS device.

I’m using iPod Touch with iOS 5.1.1. Overall, I give Google Chrome browser 4 stars. You can download Google Chrome browser here [4] .
