Barcelona have won the race to sign Spain left-back Jordi Alba from Valencia for just £11.1 million.

The 23-year-old will have a medical with the Catalan giants after the European Championship final before putting pen to paper on a five-year deal.

The announcement comes the day after Tottenham Hotspur left-sider Gareth Bale, who has been linked with a move to the Nou Camp, signed a new four-year deal with the North Londoners.

Alba shot to prominence last season with a series of excellent displays for Los Che and won his place as Spain’s first choice left-back for the Euro 2012, where he has been an ever-present as Spain marched into the final.

Manchester United were also tracking Alba but his preference was to remain in Spain and the Old Trafford club will now turn to Everton’s Leighton Baines.

Alba’s move means that, barring David Silva of Manchester City, the entire Spanish starting eleven for Sunday’s final is expected to be made up of Barcelona and Real Madrid players.
