FRANKLIN – The Franklin Police Department have recently released a free iPhone app to help the public connect with the department and keep up with whatÂ's going on in the city.
In February, the department unveiled its Android app on GoogleÂ's Play Store. In response to area iPhone owners, Officer Chris Grant, an eight-year Franklin Police veteran and avid software developer, created a custom FPD iPhone app, now available for download in the App Store.
The Franklin Police Department is the first in Tennessee to offer a custom built app on the Google Play Store and the iPhone App Store. The cityÂ's partnership with Verizon Wireless helped to make the iPhone app development possible. Verizon, whose regional headquarters is in Franklin, provided an iPhone at no cost during the development and testing of the new app.
From the Android and iPhone apps, users can call Franklin police, contact Department leaders, submit concerns, sign up to receive email and text message alerts, and see the latest FPD news. Thanks to a partnership with CitizenObserver, a Minnesota based company, users can submit anonymous crime tips directly from the app.
Chief David Rahinsky said, Â"The development of this app is another example of the Franklin Police Department using internal talent and resources to deliver quality services at minimal cost in response to feedback from the community we serve.Â"
