Brailletouch apps to bring eyes-free texting to iPhone and iPad

Traditional Braille typing devices are mobile. Because of heavy and expensive you don’t want to risk them in public. As a solution Brailletouch app to bring eyes-free texting to iPhone and iPad come to market.

Brailletouch is a new mobile app which allows users to write accurately and quickly using gestures on their smartphone touchscreen. Moreover you can do it without looking at the screen. Currently iPhone and iPad devices are using the free and open source prototype to work. This Prototype uses the Braille writing system.it is envisaged it may one day be used by any smartphone user when he will a need for eyes-free writing or texting.

 

With BrailleTouch You will get 6 keys, three for each hand. These are similar enough to existing Braille typing systems. That is why it won’t take much time to learn. After taping the correct combinations the app will speak the letters to you. The demo prototype uses an iPhone but won’t be limited to iDevices. Android version is working on that right now. Although it is for visually impaired and sighted people but it is helpful for everyone. Because you can use more than one finger at a time so it’s possible to type very fast. It has only six touchpoints, not a bunch of very tiny letters so accuracy is very high. Only you have to do is learn to type in Braille.


Principal investigator Mario Romero Said “we’ve determined through our user studies that users can pick up [typing Braille], and without any training start typing faster than most people type on a QWERTY keyboard.” Romero said that it took only few hours for his colleagues with the app to pick up the Braille writing system.

This is must a great addition to our electronics gadget for the blind people.
