That might be caused the video ecoding problem , or the video format is incompatible with your player. If so, Handbrake is exactly what you need. It is a free and open source software can convert videos and rip DVD movies on Mac OS, the output file can be played on iPad, iPhone, iPod and other players.
Here is a tutorial on how to use Handbrake to convert video and rip DVD on Mac OS X.
Handbrake System Requirements:
* 500 MHz processor or better with at least 16MB of video RAM
* (Handbrake 0.9.3 and higher) Handbrake 0.9.3 (Only the latest version of handbrake 0.9.3 can convert videos using the Theora codec. It can convert videos such as 3GP, AVI, FLV, MKV, MOD, MOV, MP4, MPG, WMV to MP4, MKV, AVI, OGM on Mac. But sometimes, Some such videos can not be loaded successfully.)
* Mac OS X 10.5 or higher
With following steps, you can convert videos and rip DVD with Handbrake on Mac.
Step 1. Download the latest version of Handbrake from here [1] . Handbrake is free and works for Mac OS X, Windows, Linux, these instructions apply to all platforms.
Step 2. Launch Handbrake
Step 3. Select the source video file you want to convert to iPod, iPhone, Apple TV compatible formats. DVD, AVI, MOV, MKV, etc. But not all the video files can be loaded to Handbrake successfully.
For DVDs, select the inserted DVD and  Open it on the pop up window like the image below.
Step 4. In the output settings tray on the right side, select the device you want to optimize the video for (you can select Universal if you plan on using it for multiple iOS devices)
.
Next you need to decide how high (or low) you want the quality of your
ripped content to be. In the video panel, you can drag the Constant
Quality slider from left to right to adjust the quality. (Right is
higher, left is lower.) Alternatively you can set an average bit rate
(weâve created a calculator to help you find the perfect bit rate)
or use a Handbrake preset for a specific device. Once youâve chosen
your video settings, click the audio tab and make your audio choices.
For the most part you can leave this alone, but this section is where
youâll set things like the audio language of your ripped content. You
can also change the audio bit rate here, but note that if youâre ripping
content for an Apple device you cannot set that bit rate above 160kbps.
Step 5. Click on âStartâ and wait, Handbrake will convert the video to the format you chose.
When Handbrake is done converting the video, youâll get a message and
you can find the video in the destination source you set. The default is
your desktop, so if all else fails just look there.
Last step. Import converted files into iTunes
* Connect your iPod Video or iPhone to your computer using the cable it came with and open iTunes (Applications > iTunes).
* Drag and drop the video file into your iTunes library, or select Add to Library⦠from the File menu.
* Make sure the video file you just added to iTunes is in a Playlist that will get synced to your device.
* Select âSyncâ
The sync may take a few minutes. Once completed, the file should now be on your iPod or iPhone.
