By now, youâve heard the hype about Siri on the iPhone 4S. If you donât have the latest iPhone model, donât fret. A few voice-recognition apps on the market do practically the same thing, and some work with Android and BlackBerry devices.
Here are a few recommendations from GeekSugar.com [1] :
1.ââTurn your words into action with Vlingo.com. Speak to your phone to connect with people, update your Facebook or Twitter account, send text or email, or search the web.
Available on BlackBerry, iPhone, Android, and some models of Nokia and Windows Mobile devices.
2.ââTap your phone, then ask it for directions or a movie show time, using free app Dragon Go. Dictate a text or email message. It performs nearly the same as Siri.
Available on iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. Search for it in the App Store.
3.ââDo a spoken-word search on Google for what you want â"a nearby pizza spot, a contactâs phone number, the answer to a question, movie show times, or the weather forecast.
Get the right app by visiting m.google.com/search in your phoneâs web browser. Youâll see the right version of Google Search show up.
Available on Android, BlackBerry, iPhone, Windows and some models of Nokia devices.
4.ââAnd donât forget, if you have an iPhone, you can use the voice search thatâs already included on it. Itâs not exactly Siri, but it does a good job of calling a contact or playing a song for you.
