Rift Mobile App Hits iOS

published: 2012-01-05 22:25:53

Today Trion Worlds rolled out an app for iOS devices called Rift Mobile. The app, currently in beta, allows players to stay connected to the MMORPG Rift even while they're away from the computer. It's a way to convince you to leave the house once in a while and also to make sure you never stop playing the game.

Rift Mobile is a free download through the App Store [1] . It allows an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch user to chat in real-time with other players, or check out their guild's latest news. You can also set up alerts so that you can be notified when a Zone Event is underway. Minigames will give you a chance to win planar loot, crafting materials, and artifacts.

Interestingly enough, you don't need an active subscription to use the app's features. All you need is a game account and a character. I guess the idea is that if people are tuned into what's happening in the game, they're more likely to re-subscribe. Regardless, it's a nice way to retired players to keep in touch with old friends.

Trion plans to release a beta version for Android phones by the end of January. The full version will hit iOS and Android during the first quarter of 2012.
