The report published by the technology marketing company Fiksu has followed the evolution of software related to the Apple iPhone since last year until this past November. In this data the impact of iPhone 4S and iOS 5 is perceived in a special way , because the volume of downloads of the top 200 free applications increased 15% in the month of October this year, reaching 4,91 million downloads a day. In November, still it continued to grow to a maximum of 5.65 million downloads a day, the first time application downloads exceed the figure of five million. This represents a 83% increase over last year.
However, although this data is not at all bad for Apple , itâs worth to have a look in the annual reports produced by Flurry on the evolution and the possibilities of IOS and  the Android operating systems. This report says that the potential for smartphone users in the U.S., and therefore it speaks about the download possibility is âonlyâ 91 million. And it says âjustâ because in countries like China this potential goes up to 122 million. Then this means that there is still tremendous untapped potential and the data from Fiksu makes it clear what happens when we experience a growth in the number of new smartphone users: an increases in the number of application downloads. In fact, the Fiksu has called this situation something like âmassive expansion of mobile applicationsâ and they believe we have not yet seen the true potential of this market.
Besides the number of applications downloaded per day, Fiksu also calculated an index that reflects the cost per  âloyalâ user , i.e how much a developer, which have applications in the market, spends to keep a user loyal.(loyal user = it has opened the application at least 3 times). In the past two months, this index does not seem to have moved much, dropping to $ 1.43 in November from Octoberâs 1.47.
According Fisku , the numbers of downloads has grown even more in December, especially after learning that the users have activated nearly 7 million Android and IOSÂ devices and on Christmas.
