iPhone users download 5 million free apps every day

It’s app-mania at the Apple Store with the latest download numbers coming in. In November alone iphone and iPad users collectively have downloaded in excess of 5 million free apps every day. This is the highest download rate the store has ever recorded and much of this surge can be attributed to the fact that Apple released the iPhone 4S and the iOS 5 in quick succession and most users who are new to the smartphone platforms have this great urge to try out as many free apps as possible.

These numbers are coming in from a mobile ad firm called Fiksu and they make a note that these 5 million downloads are only from the top 200 free apps. So in totality the number of total downloads will be much higher than 5 million per day. The reason this is seen a cheer for Apple is because it was experiencing a dip in the download rate of the free apps with numbers as low as 3.8 million apps per day for the month of October. Here’s a comparative chart of how the download rate is performing over the past few months.

This number is going be definitely much higher in the month of December because of the sales in the Holiday season and all those new users wanting to have cool free apps on their phone. Also in the coming months Apple has lined up few releases in the iPad category including the rumor about an iPad Mini. Also the impending next iPhone coming in fall of 2012 will also ensure that the download rate is kept ticking at a satisfactory pace.
