During the day Pod2G together with Dev Team and Chronic Dev Team released the latest untethered free jailbreak and unlock solution for iPhone 4 iOS 5.0.1, and also launched a new version of PwnageTool. iPhone 4S remains incompatible and PwnageTool 5.0.1 bring the opportunity to hacktivate and to install packages from Cydia directly by using the custom ipsw. From iOS 4.3.3 Dev Team has not released a new version of PwnageTool, however, this latest version does not bring anything extra for the free jailbreak and unlock side.
PwnageTool 5.0.1 only works on Mac OS X and is compatible with the following devices:
- iPhone 3GS;
- iPhone 4;
- iPod touch 3G;
- iPod touch 4G;
- iPad 1.
ultrasn0w 1.2.5 makes unlock for the following basebands:
- 01.59.00
- 04.26.08
- 05.11.07
- 05.12.01
- 05.13.04
- 06.15.00
Gevey 3G works with any iPhone 4 baseband less than or equal to version 4.10.01.
No matter what bootrom or baseband have your devices, you can use the custom ipsw made with PwnageTool 5.0.1's. If your terminal is not jailbroken then enter it into Pwned DFU Mode with redsn0w before restore to the custom ipsw made after this tutorial.
Step 1
Download iOS 5.0.1 for your iPhone 4 from here [1] .
PwnageTool 5.0.1 can be downloaded from here [2] .
Step 2
Mount the image with PwnageTool, connect your iPhone 4 to Mac OSX and open the application.
You will receive a warning message, click OK to continue.
Select expert mode from the menu bar.
Select the iPhone version.
Click continueand you will be asked to search the location where you downloaded the Apple firmware. Click the Browse button and go to the directory in question. There is the possibility that the firmware to be found automatically if you copy the application in the same folder where you downloaded the firmware.
Select the firmware, then click continue.
Step 6
You get in front of a menu with four options that enable you to customize the firmware. The General option takes you through all the secondary PwnageTool options so choose General and press the blue button to continue.
Now you have in front the menu that allows you to select between activating the iPhone 4 automatically through the custom ipsw or to allow iPhone 4 to make a baseband update. If you don’t have the operator card, in order to be activated, let the option "Activate the phone" checked. Besides this there are a series of options for iPhone 3G users such as: enabling multitasking, enabling the homescreen wallpaper and the percentage that indicate the battery level.
Option packages settings allows you to select .deb files to be installed automatically in restore process. Click the Download packages tab, double click on the desired application to download, then select what you downloaded and click the blue button to continue.
You will be brought to a window where will appear only the selected applications, press the blue button to continue.
You now get to the install package-sized menu, leave checked Cydia and press the blue button to continue.
The Custom Logos Settings option allows you to change the boot logos. Click Browse to select images from your computer but may not be larger than 320 × 480 and files to be .Png.
Press the blue button to continue.
Step 7
You reach the initial page of options. To start press the build button and then the blue button to continue.
You will be asked to choose where to save the custom ipsw, Choose, click Save to begin the process. The process can take up to 10 minutes or more, depending on your computer.
You will be asked for a user and password, you need to specify them in order to continue.
You will receive a warning message and it's best to click No if you do not know or not sure.
After PwnageTool created the custom ipsw, you will be asked to turn off the iPhone 4. CAUTION. This step is necessary! You must have your iPhone 4 connected to the computer to continue. Do not try to enter iPhone 4 in DFU mode on the VMWare, because will not work.
If you enter the iPhone 4 in DFU mode, do it by following the instructions of PwnageTool, otherwise use the Recovery Mode to restore.
If the process will not succeed, you will be greeted by a message similar to below, what you need to do now is to click Yes, remove the USB cable from the iPhone 4, close and reopen it, connect it to USB again and get ready to redo the process.
If you manage to enter your iPhone 4 in DFU Mode will show a message like this:
If you have iTunes opened will display the following message. If you have not yet opened iTunes, you can do.
Simultaneously press the Alt / Option to select the custom IPSW's created and to begin the restore.
If you followed the steps carefully then now you should have free jailbreak and unlocked iPhone 4 on iOS 5.0.1.
Step 12
Now we unlock iPhone 4 using ultrasn0w 1.2.5. Open Cydia on your iPhone 4 and press the Search button at the bottom of the application.
Type in the word search box ultrasn0w and should appear on the screen the ultrasn0w package. Click on ultrasn0w, then click Install on the top right and then confirm, ultrasn0w will be installed. After installation reset iPhone 4 and when restart will be ready.
