A blast from the past, an arcade game that reminds you of your youth or perhaps itâs just a fun and addictive way to spend your time. FlipShip can be summed up in one word, awesome! I highly recommend this game and would call it one of the best free iPhone apps [1] that Iâve downloaded in quite some time.
The goal of the game is simple attach ships of the same color by tilting your screen and allow your firing sensors to do the harder work for you. What can be more fun than sitting back and letting the game do the work for you? When I loaded the game for the first time it took a couple of seconds but I think that may have been due to the fact that I had other apps open and running in the background. I was certainly excited to get my hands on this one so I didnât get frustrated and proceeded forward to the meat of the app.
When I selected the how to play tab I was quickly presented with a screen that showed some helpful and much needed hints on how to get my ship moving and the basic controls of the game. The gameplay section told you which ship was yours, which was your enemies as well as how to flip your ship, power-up and find the power meter, all of which are key in making it further along in this fun and addictive game.
From there I visited the options menu which allowed me to turn up or down the music and the sound effects. I opted to turn the music down low at first so that I could get a better feel for the game and not be as distracted. I did find that I loved the sound effects but that wasnât too much of a big surprise!
When I then came back to select a new game I was excited to see that I could select my own new ship. I had three options to choose from and each ship did something different. The Sentry Drones allows you to cleverly attack ally enemy ships until depleted. The phase wave stated that it could convert the color of everything that it comes across and touches and the starburst gives off a deadly burst of colorless material that can annihilate everything in its path! The decision was harder than the gameplay so I opted to eventually play all of them.
Once I decided on a ship I let the game, or war, begin. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to move the ship along simply by tilting the screen and attacking your enemies it started out simple but the more you moved along the harder and more challenging it became, but isnât that what makes a regular game a great game? Iâm certainly no pro as of late but Iâm working on it and the fact that Iâm easily addicted to amazing games makes it easier.
