I'm planning to attend the upcoming Bootfest event. Where will festival-goers be able to park?
Several streets around the downtown area in the vicinity of Bootfest will be blocked off beginning at 10 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 20, to prepare and set up for the festival. Because there will be limited parking available downtown, Bootfest organizers have coordinated two Park and Ride locations with shuttle buses providing a free continuous service from 11 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 21.
Festival goers will be able to park their vehicles and catch a shuttle bus from the Citizens Medical Center parking lot at 2701 Hospital Drive or from the Dr. Pattie Dodson Public Health Center parking lot at 2805 N. Navarro.
For additional information about Bootfest, feel free to browse bootfest.org.
Am I required to slow my car down if there is a stopped emergency vehicle on my side of the street?
Yes. State law now requires drivers approaching stopped emergency vehicles - with lights activated - to either slow down or change lanes. Drivers must vacate the lane closest to the stopped emergency vehicle if this is an option, or slow down 20 mph below the speed limit. Emergency vehicles include police, emergency medical service and fire vehicles.
A violation of the law is punishable by a maximum fine of $200. If a violation of the law results in property damage, the maximum fine increases to $500. If a violation of the law results in bodily injury, the offense is upgraded to a Class B misdemeanor.
The Victoria Police Department also advises drivers who come upon emergency vehicles parked at an emergency in a residential area, to travel slowly and proceed with caution to protect our firefighters and police officers.
