This app is for you, smartphone owner. Beginning today, the San Antonio Express-News will publish a column designed to help smartphone owners navigate the mobile application marketplace.
On some Mondays, the list will include the apps that experienced the most dramatic increases in popularity during the previous week. Other times, the column will list highly ranked apps pegged to timely issues, from sports and fashion to travel, holiday preparation and parenting.
The apps for Apple and Android phones are ranked by Mobilewalla, a search and discovery engine, on a scale of 0 to 100.
"Mobilewalla is the app genie for the well-documented challenge of app search and discovery," said Glenn Mott , managing editor of King Features, explaining that Mobilewalla gives readers "a way to better use the devices they are tethered to."
More than a third of American adults - 35 percent - own smartphones, according to a Pew Internet Project survey earlier this year.
Today's list is of the fastest rising apps.
