AMSTERDAM — TomTom has made its recently launched free iPhone application available in four more countries; Germany, Belgium, Portugal, and Denmark. Already its app has reached 75 000 downloads in the Netherlands in less than a month since its lauch.
The TomTom Places is an iPhone application that combines POI database with maps. It allows iPhone users to search for relevant businesses or locations, like hotels, restaurants, supermarkets, cash machines or tourist attractions. Detailed information is provided to help users refine their results and decide what their next destination should be.
Company details provided by; Gelbeseiten, De Telefoongids & Gouden Gids, De Gule Sider, Páginas Amarelas and goudengids.be [1] , are included together with other sources resulting in a high quality local search experience. Favourite searches can be stored, to make them conveniently accessible with one push of the button.
Lucien Groenhuijzen, Managing Director TomTom Places says: “With TomTom Places people can easily find and get all relevant information about the places they want to visit. We offer a high quality database in an easy to use application and as a result, we are enjoying high numbers of downloads in the countries we made it available. We will continue to expand geographically in the quarters to come, to allow more people to enjoy our free local search app.”
Search has finally been made easy abroad, especially to search in European languages like Dutch, French, German, Portuguese and Danish so far.
Apart from placing an immediate call, e-mail or visit the destination’s website from the application, the app also provides the route to your chosen target and the current traffic situation based on HD Traffic. The application does not provide turn-by-turn navigation functionality, said the company.
