Today is a landmark day for professional hockey in Winnipeg.

While True North has been working feverishly to ready their organization for the start of the NHL season, web developers with the Free Press and with our vendors have been equally busy building apps, websites and mobile content.

In concert with the first pre-season game of the reborn Jets, the Winnipeg Free Press is officially launching several Jets-related products today.

The first is our live-scoring widget produced by Sports Direct [3] . It delivers real-time scoring from Jets games, as well as all NHL games, so you can see at a glance how your teams are doing. The widget will be seen on our main landing page as well as our Sports and Jets landing pages later today.

For those wishing to delve deeper into the magic of statistical minutiae, Sports Direct also provides all of the usual stat categories, which will be displayed on our Jets pages.

We're considering this a live Beta test of the service. If you notice any bugs, let me know, and I'll have them tweaked before the start of the regular season.

Next we have the unveiling of our WFP Hockey iPhone app, which appeared yesterday in the App Store [4] .

On top of providing the same real-time scoring engine from Sports Direct, the WFP Hockey app also aggregates all of our Jets coverage from print and the web and includes Twitter feeds, links to live blogs, photo galleries and videos. It's your hub for Jets hockey on the iPhone.

Another way to interact with our coverage from the road or at the games is with our Cover it Live content.

As we've done with the Moose and other major events like concerts, we will be live-blogging every game of the Jets season, pre-season included.

This gives you the chance to follow the progress of the game and send your thoughts along to our writers and to other Jets fans.

Not only can you take part in Cover it Live on your computer, but you can download the Cover it Live App [5] and join in at the arena. Download the app and search for our live blog items and join in the fun.

Finally, we are pleased to welcome Darren Ford to our site as lead moderator on the JetStream fan forum . We've been running a live Beta for this for a while, and we're still tweaking the settings, but it is good to go for game night.

Darren ran the popular JetsOwner.com website and forum and he'll be contributing regularly to the forum with insight from the fan experience angle throughout the season.

Here you can share your thoughts on the Jets or the NHL in general, submit your game-day photos and stories and upload YouTube videos.

These innovations are part of our effort to provide you with many ways to get your Jets content, and to ensure you get it in the format you want when you want it. That is the golden rule of digital.

Try out our new services and let me know your thoughts and suggestions.

Go Jets Go.
